A plan to adopt a Resolution of No Confidence in Garnett’s Parks and Recreation Department and it’s Director, Phil Bures, has been dropped.
Commissioner Jason Sheahan posted a draft of the Resolution last week. It details the City Commission’s position and limits in direct management of city staff other than the City Manager. The Resolution relays that city staff and commissioners have received numerous complaints about the Parks and Recreation Department and repeated attempts to rectify those problems have failed.
Shehan says the Post had sparked numerous conversations about the issue and those talks have convinced him not to introduce the Resolution to the Commission; however, such a Resolution would not be binding and would not effect direct action on city staff. It would be a statement of support and direction by the city’s elected, as formal support, for the City Manager to make the changes necessary.
