The City of Garnett has established a Tourist Oriented Directional Sign Program Grant. This one time, fifty percent reimbursable matching Grant program encourages gas/convenience stores, restaurants, lodging, campground/RV parks and attractions, to participate in the program. Signs will be located on North U. S. 59, North I-69 and South I-69 Highways. Right now the signs just have one business mentioned and that is Dairy Queen. Director of Community Development and Tourism, Susan Wettstien, says travelers have no idea that Garnett exists less than a mile west of them, with all it’s amenities. They want to provide an affordable way for the City’s destination businesses and attractions to be advertised.
The goal is to have sign structures at all three locations filled, a total of ten new signs advertising several businesses and attractions, sharing the opportunities and experiences available in Garnett, encouraging more travelers to stop in Garnett and not just drive by.
