Kansas Attorney General, Derek Schmidt, issued a statement following the U. S. Supreme Court decision in Joseph A. Kennedy V. Bremerton School District.

He says the decision confirms respect for religious expressions as indispensable to life in a free and diverse Republic; whether those expressions take place in a sanctuary on on a field and whether they manifest through the spoken word or a bowed head. Schmidt says he is proud Kansas stood on the right side in this historic case rejecting government discrimination against people because of their free expression of religious faith.

The decision stated that the football coach did not violate separation of Church and State when he led postgame prayers on the 50 yard line of the school football field. He had been doing it for years and players from the opposing team would often join in. He was fired in 2015 for not stopping the prayer sessions.
