A 17 year old Pomona teenager, experimenting with making his own homemade fire starter is credited with burning down his parents garage. the Franklin County Sheriff’s office, along with multiple rural fire departments, responded to the fire call just after noon yester, Wednesday, June 29 at 3396 Georgia Road, about a mile and a half north of K-68. First responders reported heavy smoke and flames coming from the garage. As other units arrived, the fire spread to at least two vehicles and another smaller garage.
When crews were able to extinguish the fire, the initial garage was determined to be a total loss. No word on the other structure or the vehicles involved. No damage estimate was given. Utility crews from Pomona were called in to deal with power lines and poles that were damaged in the blaze.
