The cost of mailing a letter has gone up. The U. S. Postal Service raised the price of mailing a First Class letter, effective yesterday. A two cent increase went into effect raising the cost to 60 cents. In addition to the two cent price increase on First Class stamps, other postal services will also cost more. Postcard stamps, certified mail and Money Order fees will be among the services subjected to rate hikes.

The U. S. Postal Service says the hikes amount to about a 6.5% increase across the board. They point out the added expenses is still less than the rate of inflation, which is nearly 8%.

Someone was griping to me about this the other day; but, the way I think about it, I can send a letter to anyone in the Continental United States and the Postal Service will deliver that letter right to their doorstep for only 60 cents. A pretty good bargain considering the cost of everything rising so sharply the past several months.
