The Garnett City Commission has recognized 10 businesses and non-profit organizations for the contributions they make to the well being of the community, with jobs, amenities, community involvement, sponsorship of activities and economic impact,

East Kansas Agri-Energy won the Manufacturing Merit Award. They have expanded internally by increasing capacity from 35 million gallons per year to 50 million gallons per year. They added a hammer mill, CO-2 scrubber and extra grain storage. They have increased their employees form 32 to 53 since 2011. The company supports high school activities via sponsorship and donations and are major sponsors of the Anderson County Fair, Cornstock and other local fairs as well as sponsoring golf tournaments, the Chamber Annual Banquet, Anderson County Fire Department and Anderson County Hospital Foundation. Their employees are motivated innovators who search for new ideas daily and work alongside the agricultural community to keep Garnett thriving.
