The Paola Fire Department is mourning the loss of one of their own today. Paola Firefighter, Mark Dozier lost his battle with cancer last week.

Mark joined the department in 1998 and proudly served the community for 24 years. Tributes have been pouring in ever since his passing.

A benefit had been planned after he was diagnosed with cancer in June, and organizer Michele Bridges says that benefit will go on. Dozier knew about the event and had asked them that if for some reason he didn’t pull through, he wanted a scholarship set up in his name. Bridges says they will keep his spirit alive and carry out his wishes for the future fire fighters and EMT’s at Paola High School.

The Tribute will be held Saturday, August 20th at 4:00 in the afternoon at the Miami County Fairgrounds. Attendees will enjoy a pulled pork meal. There will be a silent auction, with a live auction starting at 6:00, and a raffle for a whole hog.

Visitation will be held Thursday, July 21 at the Pola Fire House Gym from 5:00 to 7:00 and funeral services Friday, July 22, at 10:00 in the morning at the same location.
