The upcoming August 2nd Primary will have an effect on the Miami County Commission. Incumbent Phil Dixon will face challenger Jene Vickrey for the Commission District 1 Seat. Both are Louisburg Republicans. Dixon says his top priority, if reelected will be the expansion of the County’s EMS and Fire services. He says they have made great strides in expanding coverage areas, but there is more to do and he wants to finish what they have started this year. He also says he emphatically supports keeping the County Budget Revenue Neutral next year.

Jene Vickery says his top priority is to dig into making property tax more affordable. He says the county has relied on raising property taxes nearly every year, to increase revenue and that has led to Miami County having the second highest spending per person for a county of its size in the state. He says for the County to stay Revenue Neutral, they have to find spending priorities and focus on essential services.
