The City of Ottawa continues to post ways to save energy and conserve water on their Facebook page. One involves you freezer. It is most economical to keep the freezer full, as they compressor cycles less. If you have empty space in the freezer, placing gallon jugs of water in, to freeze, will help a lot. A link to a video by the Kansas City Board of Utilities, offers this:
Should the power go out for some reason, having those frozen jugs in the freezer could buy you several more hours of time before foods start to thaw.
