Anyone who has lived in Paola for any amount of the time knows Alice Grandon. Known to the entire community as “Grandma Alice”, the community is mourning her loss, as she passed away last week at the age of 89. lice could be seen cheering at numerous Paola sporting events or playing her accordion inside a classroom, hanging out at the Farmer’s Market, or pretty much anywhere.
Just two months ago she was given the Lifetime Achievement Award during the Paola Alumni Festival. She was entertaining the crowd with her accordion. Memories of her are pouring in. One person said she could be ornery, make you laugh, make you cry and make you feel wonderful, all in the same conversation.
She will be missed. Services were held for Grandma Alice yesterday at the First Baptist Church.
