The last weekend before school starts, looks like a hot one and looks to be a good one to hit the lake and relax a bit, maybe get some relief from the extreme heat by taking a dip in the cool water, have fun with the kiddos. If you are heading to the lake, you’ll you’ll need to know that blue-green algae alerts are still in effect for some area lakes affected by the potentially dangerous algae blooms. There’s a warning issued for Carbondale Lake in Osage County. Louisburg Lake, in Miami County, has been down graded to watch status, with Melvern Outlet Pond, Overbrook Lake in Osage County and Crystal Lake in Anderson County is also in watch status.

It’s very important to avoid water that is bright green or has a scum, paint-like surface or floating blue-green clumps. Pets or livestock that swim in, drink the water, or eat dried algae may become seriously ill or die. Officials are asking if you are in contact with the water, wash off as soon as possible and keep your eyes on pets, keeping them away from the water.
