OTTAWA, Kan. – Ottawa University Student Athlete Leadership Team (SALT) advisor Adriana Skipper is pleased to announce that two members of OU SALT, Mia Burge and Kennard Issac, Jr., have been selected as KCAC SALT representatives for the 2022-23 school year.

“Mia and Kennard have been extremely involved in the betterment of our athletic programs over the past year,” said Skipper. “They both served in leadership roles for the SALT program by overseeing every halftime activity that aimed at getting more students at games and helped facilitate all three of our community outreach projects, including the domestic violence awareness supply drive, back to school drive and Thanksgiving food drive.”

Burge is the president of OU SALT and a member of the volleyball program while Issac is vice-president and a member of the track and field team. Both students are juniors.

Skipper went on to add, “Mia ran SALT social media for the spring 2022 semester, where she promoted all athletic games and spread the word on all student activities that we hosted at our sporting events. Kennard was a consistent voice in our meetings for ideas on how to lead our programs in the right direction when it came to celebrating each other more and being more aware of ensuring everyone is included. These two athletes know what it means when it comes to ‘It’s more than the sport you play’. They are going to represent this University extremely well.”

KCAC SALT serves as the voice for KCAC student-athletes to the conference and institutional leaders in matters of KCAC and NAIA rules, regulations, and policies that directly affect the student-athlete experience on an institutional, conference and national level. The group meets on a regular basis, which provides an opportunity to engage with other conference schools, to share ideas, goals, and best practices. These meetings also provide the student-athletes an active role in the governance process on a conference and national level.
