Did you see the Daylight Donuts 70th Anniversary promotion making the rounds on Facebook this past weekend? It says to celebrate their 70 years, the company is going to treat everyone with a free box of donuts. All you have to do is share and comment you you’ll get your donuts. What a deal, right? Free donuts!! Problem… according to Ottawa Daylight Donuts Owner, Charity McCain, she was swamped with questions at church yesterday and didn’t know anything about it. She called the corporate office and they confirmed it was a scam. First, the company is only 68 years old. Second, the page you are sent to was created Friday and only has four pictures of donuts on it, no posts. Third, it says “daily” donuts and fourth…the word “free” is in parenthesis, and the word donuts is spelled four different ways in the post. Finally, Daylight Donuts said, how can they ship donuts to people they don’t have addresses for? Over 12,000 people responded to the scam.

On a humorous note, the Atchison County Sheriff’s office put out a post stating that anyone who shared the scam, had to bring them a dozen doughnuts. So, if you see it again, remember, no free donuts.
