State Senator, Caryn Tyson, has called for a recount in the race for State Treasurer. As of this morning, the Secretary of State’s official county still gives Steven Johnson a 375 vote edge. Due to this small number, about half of the counties will have to count their votes by hand. The recount must be finished by Wednesday. The State’s three largest counties won’t conduct their review of Provisional ballots until today, with over 18,000 provisional ballots still yet to be counted, though many of those belong to Democrat or unaffiliated voters.

In another recount request, despite being rejected by nearly 165,000 votes, a private citizen has requested the recount. On Friday afternoon, Melissa Leavitt of Colby requested a Statewide hand recount of the Amendment and posted a $220,000 bond, required to cover the entire cost of the recount. Individuals who request a recount are refunded if the outcome of the election changes.

Elections Director, Bryan Caseky, says the Elections Department will go along with the recount as the Bond has been posted. Leavitt cited an incident in Cherokee County where vote totals for a pair of County Commission Candidates appeared to be swapped by accident. The result was uncovered and two hand recounts confirmed the race results and other results are also being recounted.
