The gap in the Republican Primary race for State Treasurer has widened between candidates Representative Steven Johnson and Senator Caryn Tyson. Unofficial election results, as of Monday afternoon, August 15th, showed Johnson’s lead had expanded to 475 votes, since the Primary Election.

Tyson, a Republican from Parker, requested the votes be recounted by hand in about 55 counties in Kansas, in her tightly contested race with Johnson, a Republican from Assaria. Tyson told the Miami County Republic that they were trying to collect data as to which ones had an accurate audit and says they know of a couple counties that had machine problems during the election. She says that as of yesterday, there were 17 counties left to canvass, including some of the largest: Sedgwick, Johnson, Wyandotte and Shawnee.

The winner will face Democrat State Treasurer, Lynn Rogers, in November. Rogers ran unopposed in the Democratic Primary. Tyson says she believes there will be quite a bit of Election Legislation next year, because people want to be confident in all elections.
