A man accused in the death of a Garnett woman is getting the attention of the Kansas Attorney General. In July, attorneys for James “Rocky” Allen, filed a motion that he be released from GPS monitoring as a condition of his current bond and that he be allowed to move to a home in Centerville, from a location in Princeton, where he’s resided since his bond was reduced. The Attorney Generals Office is opposing the motion saying though Allen has had no violations since being released on bond, they argued he was a significant flight risk in view of the fact he faces more than 54 years in prison if convicted in the case.

Allen is accused in the December 2020 vehicular murder of his mother, 70 year old Charlotte Grimes, of Garnett, on a rural road south of Parker. Investigators say Allen pursued Grime’s car while in his truck, on a stretch of Keitel Road, south of Parker, December 21st, and struck it several times, pushing it into a nearby field where she died. A preliminary hearing in the case is set for October 17th in Linn County District Court.
