The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office needs your help in tracking down a thief. They have fielded several calls about open mailboxes and mail lying in the road. The first call came Saturday morning around 9:40 about mailboxes being open in the 3900 block of Eisenhower Road. Deputies were able to contact most of the mailbox owners. That same afternoon, deputies were contact by a resident in the 4100 block of Iowa Terrace who found unopened mail laying on the roadside in the 200 block of Shawnee Road. During the investigation, it was discovered that mail was stolen out of mailboxes between Eisenhower and Indiana Roads and between Shawnee and Reno Roads.

The Sheriff’s Office is asking that if you see anyone in a mailbox that you don’t think belongs ther, call them. Also, if you think your mailbox may have been tampered with, call the Sheriff’s office. Just a reminder… mailboxes are protected by Federal Law and crimes against them and the mail they contain are considered a Federal Offense. Violators can be fined up to $250,000 or imprisoned for up to three years for each act of vandalism.
