the Ol’ Marais River Run went off without a hitch this weekend (September 16 & 17) in Ottawa. The 35th Annual event drew 1,495 classic cars to Forest Park and along with it, thousands of people wanting to check out those cars. Saturday morning about noon, cars were still coming in and the Park was filled with people. I spoke with one woman from Springfield, Missouri, Rhonda Schultz, and she said she a several friends come to Ottawa every year for the event and are amazed at how incredibly friendly everyone in town is, from merchants to car owners to business owners downtown. She says they will be back next year.
Saturday night, with storms threatening, preparations continued for the Annual Cruise Night in Downtown Ottawa. Once again, it didn’t disappoint. The storms went south and thousands of people lined the street from Kansas State Bank to Park Street. As the classic cars and trucks cruised by, and it was even better after dark with the Christmas lights on and the engines revving and roaring. The Over the Road Gang says the show will be back next year, hopefully even bigger and better.
