this week is Rail Safety Week and the Kansas Highway Patrol will join Operation Lifesaver and Amtrak along with multiple other agencies in starting “Operation Clear Track” to raise awareness and enforce railroad grade crossing and trespassing laws. The goal is to reduce pedestrian and drive injuries and fatalities around railroad tracks. Federal statistics show that every three hours in the United States, a person or vehicle is hit by a train. “Operation Clear Track” is an effort to raise awareness about the need for caution near railroad tracks and trains. National Transportation Safety Board Representative, Tom Chapman:
Learning to be safe around railroad tracks is very important. Remember, when you see tracks, always think TRAIN!
