CITY OF OSAWATOMIE HAS A NEW DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS. MICHELE SILSBEE HAS BEEN ON THE JOB ABOUT TWO MONTHS. HER FIRST ORDER OF BUSINESS, TACKLING THE CITY’S INFRASTRUCTURE GOALS, STARTING WITH THE “PAVE THE WAY” STREET REHABILITATION PROJECTS. THE BROWN AVENUE PROJECT IS A MAJOR FOCUS RIGHT NOW. THAT BEGAN IN AUGUST.

SILSBEE STARTED HER CAREER IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT IN HUTCHINSON, WORKING IN THE ENVIRONMENTAL LAB TESTING WATER AND WASTEWATER SAMPLES AS A LABORATORY TECHNICIAN FROM 2010 UNTIL 2014.

AS FOR FUTURE PROJECTS, SHE SAYS THE 2023 STREET REHAB PROJECTS ARE AT THE TOP OF THE LIST. THE REBUILD OF SIXTH STREET THROUGH TOWN IS A BIG PROJECT, AND THEY ARE WORKING WITH ENGINEERING CONSULTANTS ON THOSE DESIGNS.

SILSBEE SAYS THE COMMUNITY HAS BEEN VERY WELCOMING AND EVERYONE IS WILLING TO ANSWER QUESTIONS AND WORK TO SOLVE PROBLEMS. SHE SAYS THE DEEP CONNECTIONS AND TIES IN THE COMMUNITY ARE  HELPING TO ACCOMPLISH ALL THE BIG PROJECTS, AND SHE IS EXCITED TO BE A PART OF IT.
