THE OTTAWA HIGH WALL OF HONOR CEREMONY LAST WEEK INDUCTED THREE NEW MEMBERS TO THE WALL. WE’RE GOING TO FEATURE THE ACCOMPLISHMENT OF THE THREE THIS WEEK. TODAY, CLASS OF 1959 SANDI STANEART.
AFTER GRADUATING OHS, STANEART ATTENDED THE SCHOOL OF NURSING PROGRAM AT RESEARCH HOSPITAL IN KC. SHE GRADUATED SUMM CUM LAIDE AND EARNED HER REGISTERED NURSE DEGREE. SHE CAME BACK TO OTTAWA AND SERVED IN VARIOUS CLINICS, THE HOSPITAL AND LOCAL SCHOOL AND AS THE DIRECTOR OF THE OU HEALTH CLINIC.
STANEART ENROLLED IN THE VERY FIRST CLASS OFFERED BY KU MEDICAL SCHOOL EARNING A DEGREE AS A NURSE PRACTITIONER. SHE SERVED RANSOM MEMORIAL HOSPITAL AND HELPED DEVELOP THE CURRICULUM FOR THE NURSING PROGRAM AT NEOSHO COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE. SHE TAUGHT MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY THERE FOR 31 YEARS. SHE ALSO ESTABLISHED A CLINIC THAT SERVED EMPLOYEES OF THE SANTA FE RAILROAD IN TOPEKA.
IN 1991, SANDI BECAME NATIONALLY CERTIFIED AS A FAMILY NURSE PRACTITIONER AND CREATED HER OWN PRACTICE CALLED WOMEN’S CARE PLUS WITH AN EMPHASIS ON WOMEN’S HEALTH. SHE SERVED WOMEN AND FAMILIES IN OTTAWA UNTIL RETIRING IN 2016. SHE HAS ALSO SERVED ON COMMUNITY BOARDS SUCH AS THE FRANKLIN COUNTY NURSES ASSOCIATION, MEALS ON WHEELS AND THE AMERICAN AND KANSAS NURSING ASSOCIATIONS. ANOTHER HUGE SUCCESS STORY FOR A GRADUATE OF OTTAWA HIGH SCHOOL.
