THE OTTAWA HIGH WALL OF HONOR CEREMONY LAST WEEK INDUCTED THREE NEW MEMBERS TO THE WALL. WE’RE GOING TO FEATURE THE ACCOMPLISHMENT OF THE THREE THIS WEEK. TODAY, CLASS OF 1973 DOCTOR GREGORY UNRUH. AFTER GRADUATION, GREG RECEIVED HIS BACHELORS DEGREE FROM SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE IN 1977. HE WENT ON TO GET HIS DOCTORS LICENSE FROM THE KU SCHOOL OF MEDICINE IN 1981. IN 1985, HE COMPLETED HIS ANESTHESIOLOGY RESIDENCY FROM KU AND A YEAR LATER EARNED BOARD CERTIFICATION OF DIPLOMATE, THE HIGHEST STANDARD IN HIS MEDICAL SPECIALTY
UNRUH IS A FULL PROFESSOR AT THE KU SCHOOL OF MEDICINE WITH TENURE BASED ON TEACHING AND RESEARCH. HE SERVED AS PROGRAM DIRECTOR FOR THE ANESTHESIOLOGY RESIDENCY PROGRAM FOR 25 YEARS AND IS CURRENTLY SENIOR ASSOCIATE DEAN FOR GRADUATE MEDICAL EDUCATION. HE HAS BEEN INVITED TO DOZENS OF LECTURES AROUND THE COUNTRY AND THE WORLD, INCLUDING TWO IN CHINA. HE HAS EARNED THE NUMEROUS AWARDS IN HIS PROFESSION AND SERVES ON THE LEADERSHIP COUNCIL OF THE KANSAS YOUTH CHORUS AND REGULARLY VOLUNTEERS AT A LOCAL FOOD PANTRY.
