A SESSION AT A RECENT WHITE HOUSE CONFERENCE DISCUSSED THE ROLE OF LOCAL AND REGIONAL FOOD SYSTEMS TO IMPROVE HEALTH AND NUTRITION OUTCOMES IN COMMUNITIES. ONE OF THE PILLARS OF THAT CONFERENCE IS EMPOWERING ALL CONSUMERS TO MAKE AND HAVE ACCESS TO HEALTHY FOOD CHOICES. MANY BELIEVE THE CONTINUED DEVELOPMENT AND EXPANSION OF LOCAL AND REGIONAL FOOD SYSTEMS WILL BE A DRIVE IN ACHIEVING THIS GOAL. ONE OF THOSE IS NATIONAL COUNCIL OF FARMERS COOPERATIVES CHUCK CONNER:
ONE EXAMPLE OF WHAT THIS LOOKS LIKE IS A PROGRAM IN WISCONSIN. THEY ARE WORKING WITH THE STATES EARLY CHILDHOOD ASSOCIATIONS TO DELIVER BOXES OF PRODUCE AND OTHER PRODUCTS TO RURAL AREAS. EXPECT TO HEAR MORE ABOUT EXPANDING THE ROLE OF LOCAL FOOD SOURCES.
