AN OVERLAND PARK MAN WAS KILLED IN A CRASH WITH A COMBINE SOUTH OF LAWRENCE SATURDAY AFTERNOON, OCTOBER 15TH. JUST BEFORE 4:30 THAT AFTERNOON, A PICKUP DRIVEN BY 28-YEAR-OLD ABRAHAM BLANCO, OF OVERLAND PARK, WAS SOUTHBOUND IN THE 500 BLOCK OF EAST 1100 ROAD, WHEN IT VEERED INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND STRUCK A COMBINE THAT WAS NORTHBOUND, DRIVEN BY A 54-YEAR-OLD BALDWIN CITY MAN. BLANCO DIED FROM HIS INJURIES AT THE SCENE.
THE DRIVER OF THE COMBINE WAS ABLE TO REMOVE A 5-YEAR-OLD PASSENGER FROM THE TRUCK AND THE BOY WAS TRANSPORTED TO CHILDREN’S MERCY HOSPITAL IN KANSAS CITY WITH NON LIFE-THREATENING INJURIES. THE COMBINE DRIVER ALSO SUFFERED INJURIES BUT WAS NOT TRANSPORTED FROM THE SCENE.
ACCORDING TO THE DOUGLAS COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT, THE ACCIDENT RECONSTRUCTION TEAM IS CONDUCTING A FULL INVESTIGATION OF THE CIRCUMSTANCES OF THE CRASH
