SEPTEMBER WAS CHILDHOOD CANCER AWARENESS MONTH AND ALTHOUGH TREATMENTS HAVE ADVANCED AND MORTALITY RATES DECREASED, CANCER STILL KILLS MORE CHILDREN IN AMERICA THAN ANY OTHER DISEASE.
IN SEPTEMBER, KALMAR TRUCK AUCTIONED TWO KALMAR OTTAWA TERMINAL TRACTORS WRAPPED IN LIGHT BLUE WITH THE MESSAGE ‘CHILDHOOD CANCER AWARENESS’ TO RAISE FUNDS FOR RESEARCH AND TREATMENT. AS PER PREVIOUS AUCTIONS, THE ONLY CONDITION WAS THAT THE WINNING BID MUST BE HIGHER THAN THE DEALER NET PRICE. WIESE USA WILL DONATE THEIR BID OF $82,500 TO THE SITEMAN CANCER CENTER IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE SAINT LOUIS CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL. THE OTHER WINNER, METRO AIRPORT TRUCK WILL DONATE $35,000 TO “CHAD TOUGH PEDIATRIC BRAIN TUMOR CENTER” AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN.
BOTH WILL DISPLAY THE TRUCKS ON SITE. KALMAR WILL ALSO DONATE $5,000 TO” BABY JAYS LEGACY OF HOPE”, A CHARITY ORGANIZATION THAT PROVIDES GAS CARDS, UTILITIES, CLOTHING AND OTHER ESSENTIAL SERVICES TO FAMILIES OF CHILDREN BATTLING CANCER.
TODAY IS THE KOFO CANCER AWARENESS TELETHON. WE’LL PLAY ANY SONG YOU WANT TO HEAR, THAT’S RIGHT…ANY SONG… FOR A DONATION TO THE FRANKLIN COUNTY CANCER FOUNDATION. YOU PAY IT, WE’LL PLAY IT. IT ALL STARTS AT 9 THIS MORNING.
