ANOTHER EDITION OF THE KOFO GOOD PEOPLE AWARD. MONDAY AFTERNOON, THE OTTAWA HIGH SCHOOL JV FOOTBALL TEAM TOOK ON TONGANOXIE AT STEVE GROGAN STADIUM. UNFORTUNATELY, DURING THE GAME A TONGANOXIE PLAYER WAS INJURED SERIOUSLY ENOUGH THAT HE NEEDED TO BE TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL BY AMBULANCE FOR TREATMENT OF THE INJURY. ALL THE PLAYERS TOOK A KNEE ON THE SIDELINE AS THE TRAINERS GAVE INITIAL FIRST AID AND AS FIRST RESPONDERS FROM THE OTTAWA FIRE DEPARTMENT AND FRANKLIN COUNTY EMS WORK TO STABILIZE THE PLAYER BEFORE TRANSPORT TO THE HOSPITAL. ALL THE PREPARATION TOOK QUITE SOME TIME AND EVENTUALLY, THE PLAYERS STOOD BACK UP…EXCEPT ONE YOUNG MAN. OTTAWA SOPHOMORE PEYTON BASS STOOD OUT. HE REMAINED ON ONE KNEE THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE ORDEAL. WHEN ASKED WHY HE WASN’T STANDING, HE SAID “NOT UNTIL HE’S OFF THE FIELD”. HIS ACT OF TRUE SPORTSMANSHIP AND COMPASSION FOR ANOTHER PLAYER WAS ON FULL DISPLAY. NOW, DON’T GET ME WRONG, ALL THE CYCLONES WERE RESPECTFUL OF THE INJURY, BY PEYTON BASS REALLY STOOD OUT. THANK YOU, PEYTON, FOR THIS SIMPLE ACT OF KINDNESS. IT DIDN’T GO UNNOTICED. YOU MADE A HUGE IMPRESSION ON QUITE A FEW PEOPLE AND PUT A BRIGHT SPOT IN A SOMETIMES NOT SO BRIGHT WORLD. THE WORLD NEEDS MORE PEOPLE LIKE YOU.
