A FARM BUREAU SPONSORED CANDIDATE POLITICAL FORUM HELD RECENTLY IN GARNETT, FEATURED THE TWO CANDIDATES FOR THE KANSAS DISTRICT 9 HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. DEMOCRAT ALANA COUTIER, SAYS SHE BECAME RURAL BY CHOICE, WHEN SHE AND HER HUSBAND MOVED FROM CALIFORNIA TO KANSAS. THEY HAVE BEEN ACTIVE MEMBERS IN THE COMMUNITY OF HUMBOLDT AND BELIEVES THAT IT’S TIME TO INVEST IN RURAL BY FOCUSING ON KITCHEN TABLE ISSUES AND SOLVING THEM INSTEAD OF FOCUSING ON SUCH LARGER ISSUES THAT IT LEAVES RURAL KANSANS IN THE WAKE OF THE DECISIONS.
ALSO ON HAND, THE REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE, DR. FRED GARDNER. A LOCAL VETERINARIAN, GARDNER REFERS TO HIS WORK AS WORKING WITH FAMILY AND FAMILY VALUES. HE REPEATEDLY RETURNED TO SMALLER GOVERNMENT AND A GOVERNMENT THAT WOULD NOT RETURN TO THE DISTRICT 9 AREA TO TELL IT HOW TO SELF GOVERN. GARDNER ALSO NOTED THAT BECAUSE HE IS NOT A PREVIOUS POLITICIAN, HE COULD BE DEPENDED UPON, IF ELECTED, TO BE PRO BUSINESS, PRO LIFE, PRO SECOND AMENDMENT AND PRO CONSTITUTION, ON NOT ONLY THE FEDERAL LEVEL, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY ON THE STATE LEVEL.
