DON’T LOOK NOW, BUT CHRISTMAS IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER. WHAT? THAT’S RIGHT AND THAT MEANS THE 51ST ANNUAL GARNETT AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE CHRISTMAS PARADE AND LIGHTING CEREMONY. IT WILL BE HELD ON NOVEMBER 26TH. THE GARNETT FIRE DEPARTMENT WILL KICK IT OFF WITH THEIR ANNUAL CHILI AND SOUP SUPPER AT 4:30 THAT AFTERNOON, THEN HEAD TO THE DOWNTOWN SQUARE FOR THE PARADE AND LIGHTING OF THE SQUARE. THE THEE FOR THIS YEAR’S PARADE IS “ROCKIN AROUND THE GARNETT SQUARE”.
CONGRATULATIONS TO 6 YEAR OLD HAYZLEE MCDOWELL, FROM GARNETT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, WHO WON THE “NAME THE PARADE” CONTEST. SHE RECEIVED $25 IN CHAMBER BUCKS AND GET THIS, SHE GETS TO RIDE WITH SANTA IN THE BIG PARADE.
THE PARADE IS IN CONJUNCTION WITH “SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY”, WHICH IS TRADITIONALLY HELD THE LAST SATURDAY IN NOVEMBER. THERE WILL BE SPECIALS AND PROMOTIONS ALL DAY IN GARNETT. WE ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO SHOP SMALL ALL SEASON LONG, ACTUALLY ALL YEAR LONG AND KEEP LOCAL MONEY… LOCAL.
