Nelson Krueger, of Lawrence is a retired TWA pilot and loves everything about aviation. He also had the honor of being the pilot that flew Pope John Paul II around the United States on his tour here in 1979. He was at the Ottawa Municipal Airport Saturday for the Kansas Civil Air Patrol training sessions. He says his passion for aviation started when he was 8 years old and he took his first plane ride:

Nelson flew for TWA for 31 years and made 665 Atlantic Ocean crossings. He adds that if your child loves aviation, get them involved in an Explorers Program, such as the one at the Ottawa Airport for kids sixth grade to age 20 with an interest in learning more about careers in aviation.
