On the ballot for Anderson County voters in Tuesday’s election are two candidates for the 9th District State Representative. One of those is a local man, Republican, Dr. Fred Gardner, a well know veterinarian. He believes that the hard working, problem solving people in rural Kansas need to push back against the inflation, taxes and regulations pressing against them. He says we also need to protect the vulnerable among us, including the elderly, mentally and physically challenged and the unborn.

The other candidate, Democrat Alana Cloutier, from Humboldt. She says rural Kansas has been left behind. Bigger cities are making decisions for us, and we need representatives who will fight to make sure we’re not getting overlooked. She believes the government in Topeka is dysfunctional and the Legislature needs to focus on kitchen table issues, not culture war issues, such as, mental health funding. Housing. Child care! Fully funding special education, medical marijuana, and the drought.
