A fire in Osawatomie Saturday night, November 26th, destroyed a home and displaced a family of four. Fortunately, all were able to escape unharmed. Deputy Chief, Aaron Sharp of the Osawatomie Fire Department says firefighters were sent to the home in the 700 block of Brown Avenue just after 1:00 Saturday morning, and upon arrival they saw that the front two rooms of the home were on fire.
One occupant, Jen Schwien says she was luckily still awake because she was finishing cooking for a family dinner the next day. She says she smelled smoke, but smelled it frequently as the neighbors burn wood for heat. Then, she saw smoke and flames coming from the bedroom door and got everyone up and out including her fiancé, young son, and adult son who was visiting.
Schwien says they had problems with the fuse box throwing a breaker about an hour and a half before the fire started, Sharp says the cause of the fire was determined to be electrical in nature.
