A scam involving Evergy was circulating by phone yesterday around the area. Someone was making calls, pretending to be an Evergy representative and telling people that Evergy was going to disconnect their utilities if they did not pay their bill right then and then asked for personal identification information such a bank account numbers and credit card information.
The City of Garnett wants people to know that this is a scam and never give out personal information over the phone. Evergy will not call you in regard to delinquent utility bills. Any city or municipality using Evergy will notify customers if that should happen.
Again, if someone calls you and tells you that your utilities will be shut off unless you pay them over the phone, hang up! It’s a scam to get your money and personal information.
