Authorities say a 12-year-old in Waverly could face charges for a threat toward his school in Waverly. The Coffey County Sheriff’s Office says it responded Monday, December 12th, to the middle school in Waverly. They say a male student became angry during a verbal altercation, and stated he would harm several other students with a firearm.

The sheriff’s office says no one was injured, and there was no physical contact reported during the fight. The sheriff’s office says it takes every report of threatened violence very seriously, especially in the school, given the amount of media that students are exposed to surrounding the use of firearms in violent school incidents

In a message on the district’s Facebook page, USD 243 Superintendent Corey Reese, said all schools were open yesterday. The sheriff’s office says the student was identified and criminal charges are being considered, pending completion of the investigation and a complete report will be submitted to the Coffey County Attorney for review.
