A Baldwin City man is behind bars for what police have dubbed an attempted capital murder following two separate shootings outside a local restaurant and library. Twenty-year-old Junah Sisney was arrested at the intersection of High Street and Lawrence Street just before 7:30 Friday night. In a media release, Baldwin Police say that Sisney fired multiple rounds from a handgun at the Bullpen Bar & Grill at 811 Eighth Street and then drove around the block and fired multiple rounds into an occupied vehicle parked in front of the Baldwin City Library, located at 700 Eighth Street. The suspect continued around the block and fired additional rounds into the Bullpen before fleeing.
Police Chief Mike Patrick says quick action by two officers in the area resulted in Sisney’s arrest just a few minutes later. Officers Vanessa Schmalz and Ace Bitrum were commended by Patrick for their brave and decisive actions in apprehending Sisney. He does not believe the shots were directed to any one specific person or location. Sisney was booked into the Douglas County Jail on six felony charges of attempted capital murder, one felony charge of fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement, one count of criminal use of a weapon, and three counts of aggravated assault.
