More information on the shooting that occurred Sunday evening, January 1, in Miami County. First responders found a woman in her 40’s lying in a ditch at 299th and Somerset Road suffering from a gunshot wound. She was transported to a hospital with life threatening injuries. While on scene, detectives were able to identify a suspect, 36-year-old John Gray of Grandview, Missouri. Grandview police located his vehicle in his driveway and unsuccessfully attempted to contact him at his home. A warrant was obtained for the pickup truck, a white ram 1500, which is believed to have been at the scene of the shooting. Yesterday, Miami County authorities were notified by Grandview police that Gray was found inside his residence, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Through the investigation, it was learned that Gray and the victim left the residence in Grandview on Sunday, drove to Miami County where the shooting occurred. Gray then drove to the area of 299th and Somerset and removed the victim from the truck before returning to his home in Grandview.
