There is an interesting program coming to the Ottawa Historical Society soon. Director Dianne Starcinic-Deane says they are working on an exhibit about the Civil Defense Program, Sky Watchers, established in 1952 under President Truman, to watch for invading Russian airplanes. Starcinic-Deane says there was a local sky watchers program, but there were questions about if they were needed because by the time they reached Kansas, we had a lot more to worry about:
