The City of Garnett and the Anderson County Economic Development Agency is working on revamping their Neighborhood Revitalization Program. The current one had an 8 year tax refund for the Central Business District and 5 years for outside the district. Director of Anderson County Economic Development, Julie Turnipseed with the proposed new guidelines:
The proposal has not made its way in front of the Garnett City Commission or the USD 365 School Board, but Turnipseed says they are on the agenda for late this month and early February and she expects it will be approved fairly quickly. The need for affordable housing in Garnett mirrors the need for the same types of projects in our entire Region. The hope is to draw developers into the area and then hopefully have homes for the expected increase in workers coming in with new companies, either in Anderson County, Proximity Park in Ottawa or the Panasonic plant being built in DeSoto.
