If you like to fish and like to fish for trout, you have another place to find the fish. As a result of a program between the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks and EMporia State University, trout have been stocked in EMporia’s King Lake for the first time. The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks says King Lake, located on the Emporia State University Campus – has received about 1,000 trout in the lake.
King lake, which opened to public fishing April 2022, has joined other lakes across the state, including Garnett’s Crystal Lake to offer winter angling opportunities through the department’s Trout Stocking Program. The trout fishing season in Kansas runs from November 1st to April 15th. A trout permit costs $14.50 and a youth trout permit costs $7.
