A boy in Southern Douglas County that went missing Sunday afternoon, February 5th, was found alive and well yesterday morning. Douglas County Sheriff’s Office reports that deputies with the assistance of several other agencies, found the 6-year-old walking along a tree line south of Lawrence.

A family member had reported the boy missing around 5:00 Sunday afternoon in a wooded area near the North 600 block of East 1000 Road. Law enforcement, first responders and search parties were looking for the 6-year-old overnight Sunday into yesterday using thermal imaging drones and searching on foot. Emergency personnel used thermal imaging drones to continue the search well after dark, police scanner reports indicated. The search continued through the night and deputies found the boy just before 9:00 yesterday morning. He was examined by medics but appeared to be ok. Douglas County Sheriff Jay Armbrister says they are very happy for such a good outcome, thanks to a massive effort and use of resources and dedicated professionals.

The search involved drones from the Lawrence Police Department as well as a Kansas Highway Patrol helicopter, search dogs from multiple agencies, and assistance from various rural fire departments.
