Many experts were hoping that January would bring another month of zero inflation in the overall economy, but, the latest Consumer Price Index has overall inflation last month up eight- tenths of one percent and if you are buying groceries? You saw food prices up that same amount, if not more on some items. USDA Economist Matt MacLachlan says January brought higher prices for food, no matter where you bought it:

That means that grocery store food prices were, on average, 11% higher than January a year ago and, everyone is asking about egg prices. MacLachlan says shoppers paid 70% more than a year ago. The birds that were killed due to the bird flu are going to have to be replaced before egg prices come down. That, they say could take a few years.
