Garnett Flowers is under new ownership, and they hope to continue a family ownership tradition that goes back more than 100 years in the community. Travis and Meghan Nichols purchased the ranch operation south of Garnett about year and a half ago. The former homeland security employees left the KC Metro area looking for a more rural atmosphere and a residence with attached farm ground, and decided this was the area they wanted to be in. Since they were into gardening and had been around another family owned flower shop, they decided it was a good fit for them. Interestingly, the business has the distinction of being the longest florist operation in Kansas to remain under family ownership.

The Nicholls’ also raise dairy goats. Megan makes goat soap, and Travis says the couple may eventually retail some of those products from the store. Otherwise, he says, they planned no major changes in products or services.
