The Garnett Community is part of a housing study that has been in the works for a long time. Anderson County Development Agency has contracted with R D & D Planning and Design to come up with an Anderson County housing strategy. Development Director, Julie Turnipseed, says yesterday and today, six different focus groups met to talk about the housing issue in the county. She says they look forward to input from community members to tell them, from their perspective, what housing needs the area has:
She added that the importance of housing in the area has increased with the announcement of the new chip plant to be built in Burlington. In January the Anderson County Economic Development Committee received a $10,000 Grant from the Throckmorton Foundation to pay for the Community Housing Study.
