Planning for the new budget for the City of Ottawa may become a little tougher than normal….and it’s mainly because of an effort in the Kansas Legislature to eliminate sales tax on food almost immediately. City officials say it could cost the city up to 3 million dollars. During the Ottawa City Commission Study Session, Commissioner Zach Clayton talked about a possible method of reducing the budget:

City officials says some ranking of priorities is done in normal budget planning. Some officials say raising the property tax mill levy may be an option, but something they would rather not do.
