A fire caused extensive damage to a rural northern Miami County home Sunday, March 19th. According to a fire district news release, at about 6:30 Sunday evening members of Fire District Number 1 of Johnson County were dispatched to the 29000 block of West 235th Street after multiple callers reported they could see fire coming from the roof of a home in a rural residential neighborhood located southwest of Spring Hill and just north of Hillsdale Lake. While units were responding, smoke was visible from a great distance, and when firefighters arrived on the scene they saw flames coming from the back of the house,
The residents were not home at the time of the fire, and no firefighters were injured battling the blaze, however, one cat is unaccounted for. The cause of the fire and a damage estimate were unavailable. The damage was extensive enough to displace the residents, according to the release. Fire District No. 1 of Johnson County serves a northern portion of the county under a contractual agreement with Miami County. Miami County EMS, the Miami County Sheriff’s Office and the Olathe Fire Department assisted at the scene.
