A major drug bust in Osawatomie and LaCygne yesterday, March 22nd, involving multiple law enforcement agencies. Officials say the investigation began in December when Osawatomie Police developed information about area drug sales. Yesterday morning, the KBI and investigators executed search warrants at one residence in rural Osawatomie and two others in LaCygne. During the searches, they found methamphetamine and over $12,000 in cash. Over one and a half pounds of methamphetamine was seized, some of which is believed to contain fentanyl. Six people were arrested.
Forty nine year-old Charles Eslick Jr. Of Osawatomie, for distribution of a controlled substance, conspiracy, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, and distribution or possession of a controlled substance using a communication facility. Fifty Five year-old Deanne Burkhart, of Osawatomie, 50 year-old Julia Spears, of Osawatomie, 58 year-old Danny Harper, of Osawatomie, and, 60 year-old Bernie Stuteville, of LaCygne arrested for distribution of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Also, 45-year-old Cindy Ballou, of Osawatomie, was arrested during the search for having outstanding warrants for driving while suspended with no proof of insurance.
Also assisting in this investigation were Homeland Security investigations, the Kansas Highway Patrol, the LaCygne Police Department, the Ottawa Police Department, and the Paola Police Department. Authorities say this is an ongoing investigation.
