In what may have been the shortest Ottawa City Commission Meeting in recent memory, Commissioners unanimously approved a change to the cemetery ordinance that allows for clean up of older headstones, giving them new life. Public Works Director, Michael Haeffle explains:
Hope Stones is an organization that has been concentrating on cleaning and resetting veteran headstones in Hope Cemetery. They believe veterans are not getting the respect they deserve and want to change that. With the change in ordinance, they now have permission to do so without notifying relatives.
