This is National Autism Acceptance Month and the USD 290 School District is working on new autism programs within the District.
The Special Education Program in the Ottawa School District will get a reinforcement of sorts in the coming months. Special Education Assistant Director, Lark Lund, described the proposed expansion.
Lund says there are four tiers of services offered autistic children, with the fourth tier being the most severely autistic children.
The Ottawa School board is expected to give official approval to the new autism education program at its meeting Monday night, April 10th.
The autism spectrum is very wide. If you think your child may be autistic, don’t hesitate. Call your doctor and get a diagnosis. Early detection helps dramatically in shaping their education program and in getting the help they need to succeed.
