Firefighters from the city of Paola Fire Department responded to a garage fire behind the residence at 107 West Chippawa Street, yesterday morning, April 12th. Upon arrival, only five minutes after dispatch, the garage was fully engulfed in flame. The fire was raging and crews set to work in a defensive mode to extinguish the fire as safely as possible and to keep it from spreading to trees and nearby buildings, including the home on Chippawa. The dark smoke could be seen for miles around Paola.
Crews battled hard, but the entire garage and all of its contents were a total loss. No dollar estimate has been placed and the fire is still under investigation by the Paola Fire Departments.
