They say change is good, but, Ottawa Main Street will be missing a major tenant after Friday. Rex’s Barber and Hair Salon , after 65 years on Main Street, will officially close. After long time Ottawa barber Rex Browning retired at the end of 2020, the building itself was sold in March of 2022 and it was announced that the shop would become the “Barber Shop and Salon”. However, the Browning name remained and they continued to take care of Ottawa’s hair needs.

On a social media post yesterday, they announced that tomorrow, April 28th, would be their last day of operation after 65 years of community support. Several of the barbers and stylists will still be in the Ottawa area. Rex’s grandson, Riley is opening Browning Barbering at 230 South Main, the old Maggie’s Popcorn building. Mollie will be at Unique Beauty and Cuts on Main Street, Wendy will be at Hair and Gone Cuts and Suzanne will be at both Lakeside Cuts and Clips and Unique Beauty and Cuts. The future of the building is not known at this time. We’ll keep you informed.
