Members of the city council and the Osawatomie Arts Commission officially cut the ribbon on a new mural by Springfield artist Lynnsey Fletcher recently. The project is part of an award the city received from the Allen W. and Gladys Hawkins Charitable Foundation in 2022. Lynnsey’s warm and colorful “Bee the Good” design is displayed near the Creamery Bridge at the 8th Street Levee wing walls. Billy Peters of Kansas City will be installing his own design on the 6th Street wing walls in the coming weeks.
Osawatomie officials also announced that acclaimed Kansas artist Stan Herd, will be producing the world’s first earthwork portrait of infamous abolitionist John Brown inside John Brown Memorial Park to highlight the importance of the community’s role in “Bleeding Kansas”. The portrait will officially debut during the 2023 John Brown Jamboree celebrations.
